If you’re looking to rent in a major urban center, you’ve likely noticed that prices have risen significantly, resulting in a large portion of your income going towards rent. The best solution to this problem is co-living, which halves expenses. Ierax Analytix, in collaboration with the MyRoomie app, surveyed 1,509 individuals over the age of 18 to share their opinions and experiences regarding co-living.
59% have co-lived with someone outside their family, with half doing so with a romantic partner, 43% with a friend, 15% with a mutual acquaintance, and 14% with a stranger.
Predictably, the best aspect of co-living was companionship, followed by financial support and help with chores. Safety was also significant, especially for women.
Approximately 3 out of 4 agree that high rent prices are the biggest problem in renting a home, and 43% do not have the financial means to rent a home on their own at this time.
However, 17% would feel comfortable co-living with a stranger, a percentage that increases among men and decreases among women.
Deterrents to living with a stranger include fear, compatibility of daily habits, and cleanliness.
Survey Details:
The survey was conducted both online and face-to-face with 1,509 individuals nationwide, both men and women over the age of 18. Data collection took place from February 9 to 20, 2023.
Opinion of Ierax Analytix founder, Haris Lalatsis:
“For an individual to live alone and have their basic needs covered (internet, heating, food) requires almost the entire budget, leaving little disposable income for other activities. However, when there is no romantic interest or friends for co-living, there is the possibility of living with someone they don’t know. After all, people live with strangers in places like the military, hospitals, and camps. As long as there is some safety and willingness.”
Opinion of MyRoomie founder, Dominikos Pritis:
“Co-living, as an important part of the shared economy, seems to offer solutions to the high cost or lack of housing in some European countries. This is what trends show, and this is confirmed by the research. MyRoomie not only introduces Greeks to this new reality but also guides them through it, offering safety, ease of use, and options.”
